Our Story
Glenn founded Digital Art Showcase in July 2023 with the purpose of supporting Digital Artists and creating a community for the Art vertical on the Internet Computer. We raised £1,600 through a Funded.app campaign, with the majority of the funds being spent on a digital art frame setup, which we have been taking to events in London to showcase Digital Artists across multiple blockchains.
The project was started in the depths of a bear market, where some Artists were really struggling, with a lack of visibility and therefore impacting their ability to sell their art. Even though we are currently a small community we have been able to support multiple Artists obtain sales, during this difficult period. The art sector sometimes has an issue where art is sold due to the Artists name, we are breaking down this barrier for less known artists, focusing on their actual creations and the people behind the art, their stories.
Funded.app was a perfect way to kick start our project, to test the waters. This is a Web3 Crowdfund platform and we had two tiers to support our project. There were 6 Sponsors slots, which sold out within a few hours and 54 Supporter NFTs available. The Supporter NFTs sold out in a week. To start with the rewards for this tier were vague to try and prevent a bot attack and enable people that want to genuinely support our project because they share our values, not to just flip for profit. It was a pretty successful approach, when the announcement was made that the Supporter tier NFT holders own 1% of the project each, the remainder sold out quickly.
Glenn currently holds 5 of the Supporter NFTs so still has control of the project, at this early stage. Glenn hasn’t taken any wage from the project and it is all about passion for Digital Art and helping others.
We ran a community competition to design the logo for our project and on the 13th November 2023 @aimsomnia was announced as the winner. He explained a very thoughtful meaning to the design:
- The symbols are frames, which is the medium that we use to Showcase Artists IRL.
- The frames interlinking represents “Block & Chain”. The majority of the Art that we display are on blockchains or Artists aspiring to mint their Artworks on a blockchain. The DAO will also be on a blockchain and it is how we were initially funded.
- The colours represent the foundations of our project. Blue for Glenn, gold for our Supporter NFT holders and red for our initial Sponsor NFT holders. The colours are from our NFTs and will be used for Discord roles. All of us are linked together to support Artists and these foundations are going to propel our project forward.
On the 15th December 2023 we were awarded a $5,000 Dfinity Community Grant to pilot an idea we have. Digital Art Showcase are entering a very exciting period and are looking to onboard key community members to our project.
